The autopsy was completed Thursday. Dr. Charles Trainor said it confirmed that the inquiry into his death is not a criminal investigation. Trainor is still waiting for some lab results. Reports that do not involve criminal investigations are not usually made public.

The 20-year-old died Tuesday night after collapsing in the Largo Fitness Centre in Stratford. He was training to compete in his second professional mixed martial arts bout, which combines boxing, wrestling and martial arts.

Noel Ayangma, the young man's father, said he believes his son trained too hard on Tuesday.

"Jogging twice, I heard that he was at UPEI doing weight lifting the same day, then he went to Largo in the morning to do individual exercise, and then in the evening he went for practice. That's where this happened," Ayangma told CBC News Thursday.

Police are examining a supplement Rene Ayangma was drinking, but Noel Ayangma is confident the supplement isn't connected to his son's death.

How to lower Cholesterol Naturally with Bioflavonoid

How to lower cholesterol naturally ??“ Bioflavonoids

Although bioflavonoids are not true vitamins in the strictest sense, they are sometimes referred to as vitamin P. Bioflavonoids are essential for the absorption of vitamin C, and the two should be taken together. There are many different bioflavonoids, including citrin, eriodictyol, flavones, hesperetin, hesperidin, quercetin, quercetrin, and rutin. The human body cannot produce bioflavonoids, so they must be supplied in the diet.

Bioflavonoids are used extensively in the treatment of athletic injuries because they relieve pain, bumps, and bruises. They also reduce pain located in the legs or across the back, and lessen symptoms associated with prolonged bleeding and low serum calcium. Bioflavonoids act synergistically with vitamin C to protect and preserve the structure of capillaries. In addition, bioflavonoids have an antibacterial effect and promote circulation, stimulate bile production, lower cholesterol levels, and treat and prevent cataracts. When taken with vitamin C, bioflavonoids also reduce the symptoms of oral herpes.

Quercetin, a bioflavonoid available in supplement form may effectively treat and prevent asthma symptoms. Activated Quercetin from Source Naturals is a good source of quercetin. It also contains two other ingredients that increase its efficacy: bromelain, amn enzyme from pineapple, and vitamin C, in th nonacidic form of magnbesium ascorbate. Bromelain and quercetin are synergists, and should be taken in conjuction to enhance absorption.

Sources
Peppers, buckwheat, black currants, and the white material just beneath the peel of citrus fruits contain bioflavonoids. Sources of bioflavonoids include apricots, blackberries, cherries, grapefruit, grapes, lemons, oranges, plums, prunes, and rose hips. Herbs that contain bioflavonoids include chervil, elderberries, hawthorn berry, horsetail, rose hips, and shepherd's purse.

Citrus fruits are well known for providing ample amounts of vitamin C. But they also supply bioflavonoids; substances that are not required for life but that may improve health. The major bioflavonoids found in citrus fruits are diosmin, hesperidin, rutin, naringin, tangeretin, diosmetin, narirutin, neohesperidin, nobiletin, and quercetin.
This article addresses the first five bioflavonoids listed above.
Citrus bioflavonoids and related substances are widely used in Europe to treat diseases of the blood vessels and lymph system, including hemorrhoids, chronic venous insufficiency, leg ulcers, easy bruising, nosebleeds, and lymph edema following breast cancer surgery. These compounds are thought to work by strengthening the walls of blood vessels.
In addition, highly preliminary evidence suggests that citrus bioflavonoids may help reduce cholesterol levels, control inflammation, benefit people with diabetes, reduce allergic reactions, and prevent cancer.
"Sweetie fruit," a bioflavonoid-rich hybrid of grapefruit and pammelo, has shown a bit of promise for treatment of high blood pressure.

Other benefit of bioflavonoids

??? preventing nosebleeds, miscarriages, postpartum bleeding, and other types of hemorrhages
??? the treatment and prevention of menstrual disorders
??? protection against cancer and heart disease
??? anticoagulant activity (preventing blood clotting)
??? reducing the occurrence of easy bruising
??? decreasing the cholesterol level
??? improving symptoms related to aging
??? protection against infections
??? counteracting the effects of pollution, pesticides, rancid fats, and alcohol
??? ability to reduce pain
??? improving the circulation
??? improving liver function
??? improvement of vision and eye diseases
??? strengthening the walls of the blood vessels
In general, people who do not eat enough fruits and vegetables may not be getting sufficient amounts of bioflavonoids in their diet. Supplements are usually taken in 1000 mg doses, but higher doses can be used for specific purposes. A regimen of 500 mg three times per day of bioflavonoids with vitamin C at the very first sign of a cold has been found effective in reducing the severity and duration of symptoms.

ADHD is a disorder that affects about 5 percent of school-age children, and three times more boys than girls. Symptoms include a short attention span, poor organization, excessive talking, disruptive and aggressive behavior, restlessness and irritability. Many children with ADHD suffer through a range of problems, from poor grades to poor relations with parents and teachers, and more than half have serious problems making friends.

Because the disorder is far more common in boys, researchers are still learning its long-term effects on girls.

"Our finding suggests that girls may develop a broader range of problems in adolescence than their male counterparts," Mikami said. "They may be at risk for eating problems, which are a female-relevant domain of impairment. We know that eating disorders occur 10 times more often in girls than boys."

Additionally, Mikami noted that because ADHD is more common in boys, many girls with the disorder may go undiagnosed and untreated.

"Girls with ADHD may be more at risk of developing eating problems as adolescents because they already have impulsive behaviors that can set them apart from their peers," Mikami said. "As they get older, their impulsivity may make it difficult for them to maintain healthy eating and a healthy weight, resulting in self-consciousness about their body image and the binging and purging symptoms."

The study was conducted with an ethnically diverse sample of 228 girls in the San Francisco Bay area; 140 who had been diagnosed with ADHD and 88 matched comparison girls without ADHD. They were first assessed between the ages of 6 and 12 and again five years later.

Girls with the "combined type" of ADHD (those with both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity) were most likely to have adolescent bulimia nervosa symptoms, relative to girls with the "inattentive type" of ADHD (those with inattention only) and girls without ADHD. Girls with both types of ADHD were more likely to be overweight, to have experienced harsh/critical parenting in childhood, and to have been peer-rejected than girls without ADHD. Mikami said she believes these factors could contribute to the bulimia nervosa symptoms.

"An additional concern is that stimulant medications used to treat ADHD have a side effect of appetite suppression, creating a risk that overweight girls could abuse these medicines to encourage weight loss, though we have not yet investigated that possibility," Mikami said.

She warned parents and teachers to be aware that adolescent girls with ADHD may develop an array of female-relevant symptoms beyond the standard ADHD symptoms, to include eating disorders, depression and anxiety.

The findings appear in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology.

Medical Causes Of Weight Gain

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store

Becoming obese and becoming over weight is becoming more and more widespread in the world. Majority of the people are gaining weight and they are also losing their ideal weight. In fact, if you are over 20% of your ideal body weight, then you may be considered obese. Although our life style contributes to gaining weight due to bad eating habits and reduced activity, there are also medical reasons for gaining weight. This means that not all people gain weight due to eating too much or eating too greasy. In fact, you may eat less, but still gain weight if you have a medical deficiency that needs to be addressed.

One important cause of weight gain can be caused by thyroid hormone deficiency or hyperthyroidism. This can be one of the major causes of weight gain as the imbalance of the thyroid hormone will cause fat to be accumulated in your body and you will also have increase in your bodily weight. One of the most relevant mechanisms that cause this is by fluid retention. The fluids are retained by the body and thus tissues swell in the body to give a bloated look. You will also experience fatigue and lethargy, if you are afflicted with hyperthyroidism.

One other important medical cause of weight gain is Cushing??™s syndrome. Like hyperthyroidism, this is also caused by hormonal imbalance. In Cushing??™s syndrome, the body creates an excess amount of cortisol, which is also a hormone. When you have this disease, you will have accumulation of fat on your face and on your back as well as your abdomen.

Besides these two major hormonal imbalances that cause weight gain, also using prescription drugs can be a way to put on some extra pounds. Many birth control pills have been known to cause fluid retention, swelling and as a result weight gain. Also having psychological disorders can cause you to eating frenzies, which can lead to increased weight. In many documented cases of manic depression, it is possible to gain extra weight that you are not able to lose until you receive psychological treatment.

However, one thing that you should watch out for is the blood sugar imbalance, which can be caused by eating too much refined sugar. You do not need to have a disease to have a blood sugar imbalance, as anyone who eats too much sugar can experience this. For example when you eat a Mars bar when you are hungry, then excess insulin may be produced which can cause you to crave for more foods and sweets. The body will react to starvation and to input of carbohydrates by storing the sugar for future use and thereby causing more lowered blood sugar levels and more eating frenzy.

Thus as it can be seen, you will need to be careful and analyze the reasons carefully for your sudden weight gain. Many times, you will not be able to lose the weight you gained, until you receive some sort of medical treatment. If you are suffering from a medical disorder, you will need to be treated first before you can start a weight loss program.

ACOG Addresses Physician Fatigue And Patient Safety

Posted in Unspecified
Pharmacy Store

All obstetrician-gynecologists should evaluate the effects that fatigue may have on their ability to care for patients and adjust their workloads, work hours, and time commitments when feasible to avoid fatigue when caring for patients, according to The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). In its ongoing commitment to patient safety, ACOG released the new opinion in the February issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Although there are few published studies on the effects of fatigue on physicians, there is increasing awareness that fatigue, even partial sleep deprivation, impairs performance.

"It's intuitively obvious that a fatigued physician may not practice as effectively as a well-rested physician, but there are no good data that evaluate practicing ob-gyns," said John S. Wachtel, MD, chair of ACOG's Committee on Patient Safety and Quality Improvement, the committee that produced the document. According to Dr. Wachtel, providing specific guidance to physicians on avoiding fatigue is difficult because there is no objective way to measure fatigue.

The average American adult sleeps only approximately seven hours a night, even though eight hours of sleep per night is the standard recommendation. Physicians, particularly residents and certain specialists that are on call, including ob-gyns, are particularly vulnerable to sleep deprivation. Research demonstrates that even a single night of missed sleep affects cognitive performance. Adults that do not get at least five hours of sleep each night show declines in language and numeric skills, retention of information, short-term memory, and concentration. Studies have also shown that speed of performance may be affected more than accuracy. As an example, surgeons operated more slowly in simulated procedures when sleep deprived, and emergency department physicians took longer to intubate a mannequin.

More research on the effects of fatigue on practicing ob-gyns is needed before specific, evidence-based national guidelines can be developed to improve patient safety and care. In the interim, ACOG believes it is prudent for physicians to consider adapting, when feasible, the sleep guidelines from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

- Structure work to take advantage of circadian influences
- Recognize that the drive to sleep is very strong between 2 am and 9 am, and especially between 3 am and 5 am. Avoid unnecessary work during these times
- Apply good sleep habits which includes a quiet, dark room with adequate ventilation and a comfortable temperature
- After a night shift, go immediately to sleep to maximize sleep length
- Arrange for backup during the time that sleep impairment is likely
- Recognize behavioral changes, such as irritability, that may indicate dangerous levels of fatigue
- Use naps strategically

ACOG advises each practicing physician and every practice group to review their work habits with these principles in mind. Although there may be some negative economic impact of changing schedules to accommodate avoidance of fatigue, patient care and safety must take priority over any economic concerns. Physicians should not fear economic or other penalties for requesting assistance when it comes to taking steps to avoid sleep deprivation.

Committee Opinion #398, "Fatigue and Patient Safety," is published in the February 2008 issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is the national medical organization representing over 52,000 members who provide health care for women.
